Another one bites the dust

We seem to hit these ruts where Candice just will not cooperate. I have no idea why or how but she just will not do whats she is suppose to. We tried bad cards, time out and even the "daddy" threat. Nothing. So we skipped school today.

Library Class

Today we tried a new Library Class. It was Wonderful for Candice! She made a Snowman and one fo those seek pictures. Where you have to find the hidden pictures. She also got a whistle. I think she'll be going back without issue.

International Sit Down and Homework is the enemy.

This week we are trying to focus on numbers and continents and oceans. Well come to find out the Earth has 5 oceans and I could not figure that out. I knew 4 but not 5. Antarctic Ocean is just as important but I did not know it was an ocean. As the last post says, Candice thinks the Indian ocean is full of Indians. She ok with the continents, but needs help labeling them. I tried to include dolls and say " this elephant is from Asia" but I think she thought it was more entertaining than educational.

Homework is the enemy. She does not like homework, but then again what kid does? Its hard and you dont really have help. We are only giving her some worksheets but she fights us.

As well tomorrow, I am going to skip the younger Library Class and go to the Afterschool Program. Its for older kids and I think she will get along better in it. Its from K-4th rather than Preschool. They actually do a craft and talk rather than read a book.

What is the Indian Ocean?

Today we talked about review and then moved on to Letter X (criss cross, X marks the Spot), Writing numbers 1 and 2. She gets stuck on number 2. Around and then down, straight across. She gets messed up on Straight Across. Then we talked about germs and Oceans. Which leads me to Indian Ocean. When asked what The Indian Ocean is, she replied "its where Indians swim, theres dolphins and turtles are" I believe she also said there are mermaids.

Last week we were suppose to talk about teeth. Well we did but in the ER because Candice fell and knocked her front tooth out.

After 5 weeks off

We have been on break due to myself. I just lost the motivation. I am back and we are back again schooling. Today we covered Positioning in Math. Up/Down/Next to. I had Candice do a worksheet and then i gave her animals and asked her to position them. She did really well. She has a bit of trouble with Above, but knows up/over. I need more worksheets on this- If you know of any, let me know!

Then we did a review of all Letters and focused on V and W. She forgot V and knew W but needed to practice writing small W's.

Then we did letter writing in rice, until she broke the bag of rice and spilled it. I think we need to come up with something new.

Then we talked about Teeth. Good Teeth habits and Bad, what Teeth are, how many and what kind. She seemed to really like talking about them.

and finally we covered Continents. Which she seems to have trouble understanding the broader concepts, that our house, our town, out city is on the continent of North America. She knows we live in the USA though. I had her color the continents to try and understand. I need more worksheets on this too.

and thats the start of the week. Theres really no way to catch up 5 weeks sadly, but we'll be ok. We just need to keep at it. Library Class starts again this week so she'll enjoy that.

Bible Every Day for me and them

Recently I went to the local Goodwill and came across a GREAT Children's Bible. Not the cartoon-toddler type, but more of the semi detailed young child version. It breaks down the memory verse and the story. It also has a lesson for every day. A whole year. Starting today we are going to have family "bible time" after dinner. We will read the bible, look at the memory verse (attempt to memorize it) and talk about the lesson. I am hoping by the end of 2011, Candice and Lana will have a better understanding of the bible, God and what its like to have God in your life. I think we, as christian adults, forget these basics. We have them in our memories but never go back and really re-learn them. I can spout out Adam and Eve til Im blue in the face, but do I really remember? Do I really understand? Today is day 1.

Monday, we are starting school back up. We're behind, but then again, thats a normal thing in this family. We run on Alexander Time.
